If you are one of those SouthCoast natives, that dreams of mixing a dash of history with some salty, nautical charm to your wedding celebration, then set your course to Nantucket Sound. Listen carefully! You just might hear wedding bells in the wind. Now let your imagination sail beyond the horizon to the sandy shores of Nantucket. That’s where you will find the Century House, one of the oldest continuously operating inns on the island. Captain Robert Calder, a Nantucket whaler of Scottish descent, built the 18 room house in 1840. Century House became a rooming/boarding house in the early 1870’s following the decline of the whaling industry. The business thrived in the gay 90’ and roaring 20’s; survived the Great Depression and witnessed the flower power of the 60’s. This site finally joined the modern Bed & Breakfast trend with fancy private baths and air conditioning in the 1980’s...
